About Us

Since 1994, Hangawi has offered more than just a meal. We welcome guests into a quiet sanctuary in the heart of Manhattan. Rooted in the deep traditions of Korean plant-based cuisine, Hangawi is an invitation into a space of calm, where nourishment becomes ceremony.

From the moment you remove your shoes and step onto the warm wooden floor, a different rhythm begins—measured, attentive, and deeply grounding. Guests dine at low tables with recessed wells beneath, blending comfort with the grace of traditional Korean hospitality. Inspired by Korean Zen tradition, the space unfolds in muted lighting, earthen textures and meditative tones, an atmosphere that invites guests to be fully present, savor each moment and gently return.

Each dish at Hangawi reflects harmony with nature. Root vegetables, mountain greens, heirloom grains, and herbal infusions are prepared with intention. Whether a sizzling stone bowl, hand-wrapped ssam bap, or a pot of royal green tea from Mt. Jilee, each element is offered to ground, nourish, and uplift.

In a city defined by movement and noise, Hangawi offers pause—a peaceful oasis where time softens, and the body and soul are quietly restored.
